GURGAON: In the battle of the sexes, one of the most common accusations against women is that they are not good drivers. However, according to the traffic police, out of 2,71,485 people challaned in Gurgaon for various violations till November 20th this year, only 13,574 were women.
A University of Michigan survey of 6.5 million accidents said this year that women are worse drivers than men, but the statistics back home have a different story to tell.

Women account for less than 5% of the total number of accidents.
According to most men, women might be good at multi-tasking, especially with all the spices in kitchen and curtains in the drawing room but changing gears, assessing speed and time distance, the right pressure on the break and manoeuvring the steering at the same time is not their cup of tea.
As for the figures, DCP reader Attar Singh said “There are not many women drivers in Gurgaon and they are usually excused from being challaned.” “Most women try to sweet talk their way out of everything. They bat their long lashes and everyone lets go,” said Shantanu Sharma (22). He narrated an incident when a silver Honda City bumped into his car near Palam Vihar last week. He stepped out of his car to yell but as soon as he made the window roll down, a girl peeped out and started apologising. Instead of yelling at her, he let her go.
“Women usually have poor reflex. Guards in my society are fed up with the way women park, ” said Kushal Banwani, an employee at IndusInd Bank.
“Most women drive safely. The numbers prove it,” said Sukriti Singh, a student. Both men and women agree most women don’t know how to replace punctured tyres.
